SUMMARY:Live Music: Kat Gang Duo with Phil Palombi
DESCRIPTION:Tues Night Music @Lefty’s: free live music\nKat Gang (singer) and Phil Palombi (bass) \n  \nKat Gang | Vocalist | has a soul steeped in jazz.  Born in Boston she began her music theory training as a teenager at Berklee and then fell in love with the energy of New York City and went on to gain her BFA from NYU.  She then spent 7 years living and working in London\, studying music at the Royal Academy in London\, England.  She has performed twice at the GRAMMY Awards with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences\, traded fours with Bobby McFerrin at the Blue Note Jazz Festival and currently holds a residency at The Plaza Hotel with her quartet.  Kat continues to explore the depth of jazz fusion and improvisation with her versatile extraordinary ear and voice. \nVisit Her Facebook page. \nPhil Palombi is a Grammy-winning bassist hailed as “one of the most sought-after bass players in New York City\,” according to Steely Dan saxophonist Walt Weiskopf. His performance and recording credits span a who’s who of jazz\, including Michael and Randy Brecker\, Maynard Ferguson\, Joe Lovano\, Etta Jones\, Chucho Valdés\, and The Village Vanguard Orchestra. \nSince arriving in NYC in 1997\, Phil has been a first-call sideman and a leading voice on both upright and electric bass. He’s also the author of Scott LaFaro – 15 Solo Transcriptions\, the first published collection of LaFaro’s groundbreaking solos with Bill Evans. This work led to Phil’s rare access to LaFaro’s historic 1825 Abraham Prescott bass. \nBeyond sideman work\, Phil co-leads the acclaimed jazz trios Tri-Fi and [718]. Tri-Fi\, originally the backing band for vocalist Curtis Stigers\, has toured the globe and released six albums to critical acclaim. His group [718]\, known for its electric sound\, offers a creative outlet for Palombi’s electric bass artistry. \n  \n
